5 Marvel Weapons Stronger Than Mjolnir

Although Mjolnir is among the most famously mighty weapons in the Marvel multiverse, Thor's hammer is far from the most powerful tool among gods and monstrous creatures. The top tier of weapons in Marvel lore can shape reality itself. The Infinity Stones are the most popular of this kind, as the six cosmic singularity remnants grant total mastery over time, space, mind, soul, reality, and power. When threats expand beyond the physical plane, the handheld Ultimate Nullifier can instantly erase any target from existence, though it demands the wielder's own life if their focus wavers.
Although weapons like the Infinity Gauntlet, the Ultimate Nullifier, the Cosmic Cubes, and the Heart of the Universe are so powerful they're able to alter reality, the Marvel Universe's impressive assortment of melee weapons are also worth their praise. The Black Knight’s Ebony Blade can cleave through any physical substance, Beta Ray Bill's Stormbreaker channels lightning and destroys virtually any armor, and the Muramasa Blade inflicts wounds that neutralize superhuman healing factors. Notably, the Soulsword serves a dual purpose, as it's a deadly weapon on any battlefield, but its primary purpose is being a defensive blade against supernatural threats.
Likewise, the most powerful melee weapons in Marvel lore blend their purely physical traits with a variety of enchantments and enhancements that grant them countless additional uses and abilities.
Surtur's Twilight Sword
Surtur's Sword Can Be A Nightmare To Deal With
Forged by the fire giant Surtur in the heart of the Burning Galaxy, the Twilight Sword a.k.a. the Sword of Doom is a massive weapon that overshadows Mjolnir's power, despite not appearing on the page as often as Thor's hammer. Surtur crafted his own mystical weapon using the remnant energy of exploded stars and infused it with a primal force intended to set the whole universe ablaze one day. Where Mjolnir manipulates the weather and channels lightning and storms, Surtur's Twilight Sword can cleave through the very fabric of reality. It also serves a cosmic purpose, as it's specifically designed to bring about Ragnarok and sever the lifecycle of the Asgardian gods.
Surtur's Twilight Sword allows Surtur to spawn directly from it in any part of the universe, and it can augment the wielder's natural strength and power. Thor has often found his Uru hammer useless against the Twilight Sword's sweeping strikes, and Surtur has broken the Bifrost Bridge with it. Similarly to Mjolnir, Surtur's sword demands an immense toll from anyone who attempts to lift it. Surtur's first Twilight Sword is destroyed during his battle against Odin and his two brothers, and it's later reforged in the destruction of Beta Ray Bill's home galaxy, killing the Korbinite hero's people.
Loki used the Twilight Sword's magical power to turn Thor into a frog.
The Twilight Sword takes center stage in multiple cosmic conflicts, notably when Hela uses it to reshape the Nine Realms and stab Thor almost lethally, only for the God of Thunder to use the same weapon to undo the Goddess of Death's changes. More recently, the Silver Surfer merged the Twilight Sword with the Power Cosmic to fight the Enders and the Black Winters. Even though it has been broken and stored away multiple times, Surtur's Twilight Sword is impossible to eliminate for good.
Odin's Gungnir
Odin's Spear Was Mjolnir Before Mjolnir
Gungnir is the legendary Spear of Heaven, the personal weapon of Odin the All-Father. Crafted by the same dwarven smiths who built Mjolnir, Odin's spear is also made of the mystical metal Uru and receives direct empowerment from the Odin-Force. But where Mjolnir grants Thor the power of the storms, Gungnir embodies the total sovereignty of the Asgardian throne. Odin's spear is blessed by a unique enchantment that ensures its strike never misses its target, regardless of the distance, speed, or the opponent's defensive maneuvers.
Since Odin's spear channels the reality-warping essence of the Odin-Force, the All-Father is able to use it to manipulate cosmic energy on a planetary scale. Odin regularly uses this power to banish enemies to dark dimensions or restore dead worlds with a tap of its butt spike. Thor has also held Gungnir during his times of regency and realized first-hand how the spear can grant or remove a god's power with a single gesture, as long as it retains a connection to the Odin-Force.
Gungnir came dangerously close to falling into Norman Osborn's hands during Marvel's Siege.
Gungnir has defined the tide of war across Asgardian history, especially during Odin's prime, back when the All-Father expanded his reach across the realms. Mjolnir's enchantments are directly based on Gungnir, though the hammer's "worthiness" spell is unique to Thor's weapon, whereas Odin's spear can technically be wielded by anyone. However, accessing Gungnir's full capabilities is a different topic, as only characters like Thor, Loki, Beta Ray Bill, and Bor have the knowledge and power needed to achieve it.
Zeus' Thunderbolt
Zeus' Thunderbolt Is A Non-Solid Version Of Thor's Hammer
Zeus' Thunderbolt doesn't appear as often as the Asgardians' arsenal in the Marvel Universe, but the Olympian's weapon retains the might it's known for in real-world ancient myth, and it mirrors Mjolnir and Gungnir’s status in Asgard. The Thunderbolt was forged by the Elder Cyclopes during the ancient war against the Titans and claimed by Zeus to smite monsters, fellow deities, and humans alike. While Mjolnir acts as a conductor for natural weather phenomena, the Thunderbolt is the physical manifestation of Zeus’s own storm-soul. It can scorch incredibly tough objects, dissolve immortal flesh, and even affect Uru.
When unleashed, Zeus' Thunderbolt can easily outpace the flight of Thor's hammer, and it can overpower the standard lightning powers of characters like Electro. Zeus uses the artifact to enforce his divine decrees, and its impact can break the defenses of lesser gods through intense shockwaves. During historical clashes between Earth's pantheons, Zeus' Thunderbolt proves capable of matching and overcoming the combined elemental fury of multiple equivalent gods. Zeus has used it to defeat, or at least fend off, fellow Olympians, Eternals, Celestials, and Titans, the latter of whom he banished to Tartarus before establishing Olympus inside a pocket dimension.
Zeus creates his Thunderbolt out of thin air, which means it can't be stolen like Gungnir or Mjolnir.
The full capabilities of Zeus' main weapon are put on display during the Chaos War, where a possessed Zeus defeats Galactus with a single Thunderbolt attack, though Hercules proves he surpasses his father's might not long afterward, when earthbound heroes find themselves entirely outmatched. More recently, the Thunderbolt triggers a massive shift in divine power dynamics during a battle of gods in Al Ewing's The Immortal Thor, where the volatile nature of Zeus' lightning tests the limits of the Asgardian God of Thunder. Yet, Ororo Munroe has far surpassed Zeus' power as a Thunder God, meaning the X-Men hero can now overpower his weapon.
Knull's All-Black the Necrosword
Knull's Sword Is At The Center Of Multiple Apocalypse-Level Events
All-Black the Necrosword is spawned from the shadow of the dark god Knull during the dawn of creation. Knull forged his blade using the severed head of a Celestial and infused it with a hatred for all living things. The Necrosword is among the deadliest god-killing artifacts in the universe, as Knull's weapon not only destroys, but also consumes every being it kills. All-Black utilizes a corruptive void matter that snuffs out stars and infects its wielder's soul.
The Necrosword also grants its owner a suite of terrifying abilities, including dark energy constructs, immortality, regeneration, teleportation, and the ability to summon a wide variety of demonic creatures. Knull uses the Necrosword to launch an invasion of Earth in King in Black, commanding an army of Klyntar monsters that includes incredibly powerful symbiote dragons. Gorr the God Butcher famously stole Knull's weapon and used it to wage a deity-killing crusade across the cosmos, successfully executing countless deities and easily overpowering multiple versions of Thor simultaneously. When Mjolnir clashes with All-Black, the blade's necro-matter overwhelms the hammer's lightning.
Although it's created from a slain Celestial, All-Black the Necrosword possesses a malicious spirit of its own.
In Jason Aaron's Thor: God of Thunder, Gorr utilizes the Necrosword to construct a Godbomb, the temporal weapon designed to annihilate every deity across all timelines. Later, the sword's corruptive influence reaches far into the end of time during the King Thor finale, where All-Black binds with Ego the Living Planet and eventually transforms Loki into the Necro-King to wage a final duel against an aged All-Father Thor. Recently, Knull opted to claim and use the All-Black's opposite, the All-Light, which he has used to slay enemies like Illuminated Eddie Brock and Thanos.
Odin's Odinsword
The Odinsword Is The Weapon To End All Weapons
The Odinsword, also known as the Over-Sword of Asgard, is a weapon of such cataclysmic proportions that the All-Father rarely decides to wield it. Crafted on a scale meant for giants, the colossal Odinsword resides deep within the vaults of Asgard under constant guard, given that it serves as the final insurance policy of the All-Father. After all, it's a tool of ultimate destruction reserved for threats that could wipe out entire pantheons.
The magical enchantments woven into the Odinsword allow it to slice through the dense armor of Celestial hosts. When Odin donned the Destroyer armor to confront the space gods, he wielded the Odinsword as his primary offensive weapon and channeled the life force of all Asgard into its edge. Thor views the weapon with immense dread, knowing that a single misuse of its power could cause the Nine Realms to collapse into chaos. The Odinsword is prophesied to end all things, which suggests it can disrupt the fundamental forces of physics to achieve total annihilation.
The Odinsword can easily slice through Yggdrasil, destroying everything the Asgardians know and cherish.
The apocalyptic nature of the Odinsword makes its rare appearances landmark events. It debuted in Journey into Mystery #117, and one of its earliest feats is deterring the universe-eating entity Mangog. The Odinsword becomes a tool of salvation and terror during Thor #300, where Odin embeds the titanic blade into the Destroyer armor to march directly against the Fourth Host of the Celestials and pierce their impenetrable armor in a desperate attempt to save Earth from cosmic judgment. The Odinsword's legacy of ultimate deterrence is cemented further in Fear Itself, where the Odinsword helps Thor carry out the mythical Ragnarok by slaying the Serpent.
