Knicks Analyst Monica McNutt Reacts After Shading Taylor Swift During NBA Finals Game 4

Jalen Brunson is playing defense when it comes to Monica McNutt

After the New York Knicks analyst made a shady comment about Taylor Swift’s attendance at Game 4 of the NBA Finals, the team’s point guard issued a message to the “Opalite” singer’s fans.

“I just want to say something to the Swifties. She’s a really good one,” Brunson said in a post-game interview with McNutt June 13 following the Knicks’ historic NBA championship win. “Cut her some slack. It’s all good, I promise.”

McNutt ruffled feathers after she questioned Swift’s attendance at the June 10 face-off between the Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, where the Grammy winner arrived alongside friends Este Haim and Alana Haim.

“Is that Taylor Swift down there?” McNutt said during the June 10 broadcast, which was later shared to social media. “She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here girl.”

E! News previously reached out to the Knicks for comment but did not hear back.

One day later, McNutt addressed the controversy.

"Swifties, I appreciate your passion," she told TMZ. "I said what I said. I misspoke. I did not know. But here's the deal, context—I literally just did a piece on celebrity row. I've been with this organization for five years. I know these folks. Ben Stiller, his wife ChristineFat Joe. I had not seen her this year or last year."

And while McNutt acknowledged Swift's recent outing to the Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers playoff game, she maintained she thought she was supporting fiancé Travis Kelce

"Obviously, Travis supports the Cavs," McNutt continued. "But she didn't have on any Knicks paraphernalia so I did not know her Knicks loyalty. But shoutout T-Swift. We can be united."

Indeed, Swift pledged her allegiance to the New York team back in 2014, shortly after her move to the Big Apple. That year, she attended several games and even linked up with then-players Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire to shoot hoops in celebration of her then-forthcoming album 1989.

But her love for the team runs even deeper.

“I performed at the Knicks'—at Madison Square Garden's—Kids Talent Competition at halftime when I was 12 or 13,” she told TIME in 2014. “And ever since then I've had this kind of sparkly, magical opinion of Madison Square Garden and the Knicks, since they let me sing when I was a little kid.”
