Matt Bellamy has broken his silence on his split from his wife Elle Evans after the couple separated last summer.
The Muse frontman, 48, and model began dating 11 years ago after meeting on the set of Muse's video for Mercy before tying the knot in 2019.
They have since welcomed two children together; six-year-old daughter Lovella and son George - who was born in May 2024.
It was reported in February that the couple had split and now Matt has opened up about their separation for the first time as he confessed: 'It threw me off'.
Speaking after the release of their latest record The Wow! Signal, Matt admitted the separation is hard to explain.
'It's one of those situations that involves something that people wouldn't normally think it is. It was a set of really unexpected circumstances,' Matt told The i Paper.
Muse frontman Matt Bellamy has broken his silence on his split from wife Elle Evans as he confessed 'it threw me off' and writing music became his 'lifeline'
'It's the kind of thing no one really prepares for in life. It threw me off, and I had to prioritise looking after the kids and creating stability at home.'
Explaining how music became his 'lifeline,' Matt wrote most of the new record last autumn in the wake of the split.
'[It was] right in the depths of this life-changing experience. And it was just – boom. It would just pour out of me. It might have been the easiest album for me to make, because it was such a catharsis. It became a lifeline for me.'
He said for the first time he felt he had his own 'existential crisis' to write about.
Matt and Elle made their last public appearance together in March 2025 as they attended the MobLand premiere in London.
Their split comes just a year and a half after they welcomed their second child together in May 2024.
They shared the news on Instagram and included a sweet photo of their new baby - son named George Julien-Wade Bellamy.
Matt's ex Kate Hudson, 47 — who is the mother of his son Bingham, 14 — left five red hearts under the birth announcement.
In one of the photos the doting parents shared a heartwarming kiss and they rested their hand on their newborn immediately after birth.
They also showed the pair's daughter Lovella sweetly looking over at her new baby brother.

Bingham was also in one of the snaps smiling down at George while holding him in his arms.
Elle wrote in the caption, 'We are so pleased to announce the arrival of our new baby angel boy George Julien-Wade Bellamy, born on Sunday May 12, 2024. The most special blessing born on Mother’s Day & what would’ve been my late Mother’s 60th birthday.
'Named after Matt’s Dad George, my Mom Julie, and my cowboy dad Billy Wade Evans,' the mother-of-two penned.
'He arrived healthy, happy, and handsome as ever!!! We are obsessed & basking in newborn heavenly bliss.
'I am recovering well and he has already settled into such a nice routine. So grateful to my wonderfully perfect husband @mattbellamy for being so supportive & by my side every step of the way!
'It's an honor to bring another brilliant Bellamy into existence,' she finished.
