The DC Universe flies back into theaters with Supergirl, which is now playing on the big screen worldwide, but its streaming release date looms. Warner Bros. and DC Studios have not confirmed any details about the movie's eventual move to streaming, leaving us to sift through data and trends for the studio and franchise to create our best prediction.

Coming out on June 26, 2026, Supergirl is the second movie in James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe. Following in the footsteps of Superman, where Milly Alcock had a cameo as Kara Zor-El, she now steps into the lead role. Directed by Craig Gillespie, written by Ana Noguiera, and based on the Superman: Woman of Tomorrow comic by Tom King, the feature film sends Supergirl on an intergalactic journey to save Krypto and stop Krem of the Yellow Hills.

WB and DC are counting on the female-led superhero movie to hit it big with audiences, with Supergirl's box office needing to justify its budget. Millions of DC fans around the world will check it out on the big screen, including in premium formats like 3D, 4DX, and ScreenX. A streaming debut will give fans a chance to watch it again, while some may experience it here for the first time after Supergirl's Rotten Tomatoes score revealed its mixed reception.

No matter why you're looking for information on Supergirl's streaming debut on HBO Max, we can provide a specific window for when it will happen. Just be prepared to wait a few months after its theatrical launch.

Everything We Know About Supergirl's Streaming Release

Since Supergirl comes from WB and DC, it is most important to understand how those studios use theatrical windows. For more than three years (since the start of 2023), movies released by Warner Bros. go to streaming 76.8 days after releasing in theaters on average. Their schedules have tightened up significantly recently, with only four different timetables used in 2025, for an average gap of 77.1 days.

Falling right in line with that average, 77 days is the most common schedule used by WB in the last year plus. That's the gap that 2025 films Mickey 17, The Alto Knights, A Minecraft Movie, Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, Weapons, and The Conjuring: Last Rites received. Wuthering Heights also had a 77-day theatrical-to-streaming gap this year.

DC's new blockbuster will likely get the same treatment. If so, we can expect Supergirl to release on HBO Max on September 11 for its streaming debut. The only reason to think that another date could come is due to DC's history and future.

Notably, the DCU's first movie, Superman, did not have a 77-day gap last year. It came to streaming faster than any of WB's 2025 movies, debuting on HBO Max after 70 days. This put the movie on streaming in the midst of Peacemaker season 2's release and two weeks before the series really started tying into the fallout of Superman.

DC Studios will release new episodes of Lanterns weekly on HBO Max starting on August 16. A September 11 release for Supergirl would put it on streaming a few days before episode 5's release. If the show holds any connections to the movie, it is possible the streaming release could be moved up a week for the sake of interconnectivity.

Either way, September is when Supergirl is projected to release on streaming for the first time. There will be a digital option earlier than that, likely late July or early August, for anyone who can't make it to theaters and doesn't want to wait for the movie's arrival on HBO Max. The earliest Supergirl should be on digital is July 28, with August 11 potentially the latest.

All this means that everyone will need to wait about two and a half months for Supergirl to be on streaming. The movie is designed to be seen on the big screen, and WB and DC will give it a long runway to find success in that format before making other options available.
