Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Free Download Officially Announced

If you've never played Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, now might just be the time for you to correct that mistake. Ahead of the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sony and Insomniac Games have announced an extra-special free download to get you in the mood for the web-slinger's latest adventure. Sometimes brand synergy works out in our favor.

The second trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released yesterday alongside a slew of new details about the movie. And if it's got you itching to play some Spider-Man sooner rather than later, Insomniac Games swiftly followed up with an announcement for fans.

From July 28 (just a few days before Brand New Day hits cinemas), Marvel's Spider-Man 2 players will be able to download the "Fresh Start" DLC completely free. Unfortunately, this isn't a DLC to the level we might have hoped (planned expansions for the game appear to have been canceled). What it is, is the opportunity to don Peter Parker's new threads from the movie.

Insomniac Games has done a solid job of including all of Spidey's MCU costumes in these games over the years. We've had the Hybrid suit, the Homemade suit, and the Upgraded Classic suit. The Raimi and Webb movies have also been represented, so it's nice to see that the latest costume - which we know has been directly influenced by Maguire and Garfield's threads - is coming to the game.

"Get a fresh start in Marvel's Spider-Man 2," Insomniac wrote in a post on social media. "Swing across skylines in Peter Parker's 'Fresh Start' suit inspired by the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, in theatres July 31! The suit will be available in-game via update July 28 on PS5 and PC at no additional cost!"

This new suit is, of course, inspired by the notion of Peter Parker finally learning to be the kind of Spider-Man we knew in the comics. No longer reliant on Tony Stark or his tech, this suit and its gadgets were all created by Peter himself, establishing that this is absolutely a "fresh start" for the MCU version of the character.
